This research sought to determine if the establishment of an online counselling service for substance use issues in Ireland is currently feasible. A mixed design approach was used. Potential clients' and counsellors' attitudes towards a service of this nature were measured and compared to stress levels associated with the introduction of new technologies (technostress). Client and counsellor willingness and ability to engage with a service were also measured and issues relating to appropriate service delivery were explored. Neutral to slightly positive attitudes were recorded among both groups. A significant correlation between levels of technostress and attitudes towards online counselling was found among the counsellor group, but not the client group. Overall, the development of a service was deemed timely and favourable.
