This thesis aims to explore Dark Tourism within Ireland. It will study the ways in which Dark Tourism is expanding worldwide and becoming an important subdivision of tourism itself. It will examine Glasnevin Cemetery as an example of a fully functioning Dark Tourism destination within Ireland, and the ways in which the establishment brands itself to its visitors on a national and global scale, with emphasis on its online presence and branding choices. It furthermore will undertake an examination of the ways in which the establishment calls upon its link to nationalism and its sense of community in order to attract visitors to its gates. This thesis aims to prove furthermore that Dark Tourism, although considered a relatively new phenomenon, is evident throughout many aspects of everyday life within Ireland.
